Mrs. Martha Lorena McCorkle Stewart's Obituary
Martha Lorena McCorkle Stewart was born October 2, 1922, in Alva, Oklahoma, and died July 29, 2017, in New Braunfels, TX. She attended Northwestern University in Alva, Oklahoma, and West Texas State University, Canyon, Texas, where she met her husband of 68 years, Charles Archie Stewart. Martha and Archie moved to Dallas in 1950 with their two daughters, and lived there the rest of their lives. Martha was active in several community organizations, including Brook Haven Book Club of which she served as President, and Assistants League of Dallas. She was also a long time active member of Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and was well known for her culinary talents. Following the death of her husband, Martha lived at the Overlook, C. C. Young Retirement Home, where she enjoyed loving care and many new friends. Martha is survived by her daughter Carolyn Nell Carr of New Braunfels, TX; grandsons Matthew Kendall Carr (Elizabeth) of New Braunfels, TX; Christopher Holden Carr (Charlotte), great-grandchildren Miriam Elise Carr and Caleb Jonathon Carr of Englewood, CO; her extended family, Frank and Donna McDowell of Carmel, CA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents George Nesbut and Nellie Consie McCorkle, her husband Archie, daughter Jean McDowell, Brother Lloyd McCorkle, and sister Doris Ramsel. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM in Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, Friday, August 4, 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Walnut Hill Methodist Church or C.C young Retirement Home.
