Martha Starnes' Obituary
Martha Kenley Starnes; loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend went to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday August 10, 2015 while surrounded by her family. Martha was born January 10, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Ann Starnes and son-in-law John Entzminger; son William David Starnes and daughter-in-law Sheri Parchman Starnes; grandchildren Sheryl Roberts Corley and husband Sean Corley, William Kyle Starnes, Jacob Michael Starnes and wife Megan Sudderth Starnes; great grandchildren, Lillian Claire Starnes, Elise Haven Corley, and Eleanor Rose Starnes; niece Linda Hall Sanders and husband John Sanders, nephew Bill Hall and wife Susan Hall, nephew Steve Hall, and nephew Jerry Hall. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Billy Gene Starnes; father Ledger G. Kenley and mother Bernice Dearing Kenley; sister Jean Kenley Hall and brother-in- law Louis L. Hall. Some of Martha’s many accomplishments include being Miss Teenage Memphis, meeting the love of her life as a cheerleader at Southside High School, and studying voice at the University of Alabama. Bill and Martha were married in 1953 in Memphis just after Bill’s graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy. They moved to Dallas in 1964 and joined First Baptist Church of Richardson, where they found their church home and friends of 50 years. She served the church as a faithful choir member and on many committees, and was an active member of the Bluebonnet Club of Richardson. She loved to play bridge and tennis, and travel with family and friends. She lovingly cared for Bill as he suffered from Alzheimer’s. Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church of Richardson. Her family and friends will miss her devoted, loving care. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 at Restland Road.
