Martha Lee Taylor's Obituary
TAYLOR, MARTHA LEE The world has lost a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and the last of the true southern belles. While surrounded by her family, Martha (Marti) Lee Riley Taylor went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2014. Marti was born in Weatherford, Oklahoma on May 8, 1927, the youngest of 8 children, to James Ellis Riley and Martha Virginia Hammack Riley. After graduating in 1945 from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Marti attended college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford Oklahoma, where she was the voted the 1947 Year Book Queen. Shortly after, she began a career at O G & E and was married on September 8, 1951 to Ambers Milton Taylor. Marti and Ambers were both involved in barber shop harmony, Marti was a member of Sweet Adeline’s harmony groups in Oklahoma City and Dallas. She was a RISD school secretary at Greenwood Hills Elementary and Canyon Creek Elementary in the 1960s and 70s retiring from Hughes Drilling Fluids. Marti was preceded in death by her husband, Ambers Milton Taylor and son David Ray Taylor, as well as her parents and siblings – brothers: Jim, Claude, Carl, Jack, Edgar Riley; sisters O’Dean Riley, Darlene Pulford; Marti is the last member of her family to have been a member of the greatest generation. She is survived by son Dane Taylor (Nickie), daughter Janie Taylor Trefny (Mike), grandchildren Scott Taylor, Courtney Wilson (Sammy), Aaron Taylor, Amanda Taylor Gruver (Chad), Ricky Taylor, Zach Taylor, Brynna Trefny; great grandchildren Jack and Carter Wilson, Cayley and Hudson Gruver; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Marti loved her family both immediate and extended. Her children and grandchildren were her world, yet she treated her nieces and nephews as her own as well. She has been a role model to all as an example of a Christian wife and mother, giving unconditional love and support to all. Marti loved to laugh and to make others laugh, she loved a good joke! She could master ANYTHING creative – pottery, ceramics, oil painting, knitting, sewing, flower arranging, decorating and crafts. She enjoyed untold hours of games with friends, playing bridge, dominoes, or any card game. She was the Queen of Christmas, and taught all who knew her how to make the season festive, bright, delicious, and bedazzled! It is sad that not everyone reading this obituary knew her well, but be assured that Heaven has welcomed a very special lady into its gates. Marti is singing with the angels. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
