Marvin Richard Marek's Obituary
Marvin Richard Marek was born on January 28, 1933 in Dallas, Texas and passed away February 15, 2023 in Clifton, Texas, just two weeks after his 90th birthday. He grew up in Lakewood and attended Lee Elementary, JL Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School - WWW Class of ’50. After graduation, he took over the family business from his father Joe Marek and was the owner of Marek Auto Service on Henderson Avenue.
Marvin was in the Naval Reserve in San Diego and was honorably discharged in 1960. He became a 32 degree Mason in 1956 and later a 33 degree Mason and truly found his calling. He was involved with the Dallas Scottish Rite as a mason and in the Royal Order of Jesters. He was very involved with the Hella Shrine Temple in leadership roles, most notably their motor patrol, and he was a member of several lodges but for most of his life the Empire Masonic Lodge #586 in Nevada, Texas.
When he was not working or riding motorcycles, Marvin could be found on his tractor on his farm outside of Royse City, Texas. He raised Black Angus beef cows and baled lots and lots of hay. Marvin was very proud of his Czech heritage, as were both his parents, and was an active member of the SPJST. He had a large and amazing Czech family that he loved and cherished.
In his years with the Hella Temple Motor Patrol, he traveled, competed and won State and National competitions. They appeared in numerous parades and demonstrations, and raised funds for the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and The Shriner’s Burn Center in Galveston.
Marvin was married three times in his long and full life. With his first wife Alice “Bunny” Proctor, he had three children Rick, Martha and Mindy. With his second wife Sarah “Griz” Ponder, he had Michelle. And then in his later years, he reconnected with and married Dolores Miller, WWW Class of '49, and gained a wonderful group of step children, in laws and grandchildren whom he loved and cherished.
He is preceded in death by his parents Annie Petr and Joe Marek, his brother Ray Marek, his wives Alice Proctor and Griz Marek, his daughter Mindy Cranston. He is survived by his wife Dolores Marek, his son Rick Marek and daughter-in-law Frieda, his daughters Martha Marek and son-in-law Mark Underkofler and Michelle Hopson and son-in-law Robert Hopson, his granddaughters Sarah Hopson and Jamesy Dollar, his grandsons Jake Marek, Ryland Marek and Will Cranston and many great grandchildren.
