Marvin Jackson (M.J.) Phelps' Obituary
Marvin Jackson (M.J.) Phelps went peacefully to be with the Lord on April 16th, 2023. M.J. was born on August 24th, 1934 to Ted and Lois Phelps in Brown, Oklahoma. He worked on the family farm and graduated from Achille High School in Achille, Oklahoma in 1952. He met the love of his life, Billie Ladd, in 1951 and they were married on May 28th, 1954.
Billie and M.J. moved from Oklahoma to Garland, Texas in 1958 where they raised their two sons, Ronnie and Tim. M.J. coached both boys’ sports teams throughout their youth. M.J. made sure that they made it to all the Garland High School football home games at Williams Stadium.
M.J. retired from PCA Paper Company in 1998 where he had worked for 39 years. In his retirement, M.J. and Billie enjoyed road trips to Oklahoma, Missouri and California. M.J. was an avid fisherman and spent many weekends on Lake Lavon or Lake Fork fishing for crappie with his buddies Jack and Kenneth. He also enjoyed gardening, and everyone looked forward to getting fresh veggies from M.J. and Billie’s garden.
M.J. is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Lois, sister Pat, his brother’s Bob and Ben and his son, Ronnie.
He is survived by his loving wife, Billie, son Tim (Leigh), grandchildren, Ryan, Justin (Joselyn), Cody, Parker (Chelsea), Breanna (Marshall) and great-grandchildren, Caiden, Christian, Dalis, Preston, Harrison, Hallie, McKinney and Jude.
