From the 1990s through 2013, Marvin and I must have walked at least 12,000 miles, together, simultaneously sharing life experiences, politics, beliefs, even poetry! I appreciated Marvin's keen intellect, his honesty, sterling Christian character, positive outlook, and indefatigable good humor; he was an uncommon man and I consider myself very fortunate to have been frequently in his good company and to have been his friend. His sort is hard to come by, these days, and Marvin's passing grieves all who knew him, deeply . . . Darryl Culpepper

Marvin was a larger than life character to me. I thought he was one of the smartest men I have encountered. He was a mentor to many, a friend to us all, a solid rock in crisis, the calm in the storm, and knew how powerful laughter could be. I was so fortunate to be the recipient of his kindness and mentoring. During the years I worked under Marvin?s direction, I never once saw him get angry. He never demanded and he never dwelled on your weaknesses. He shared his knowledge and encouraged personal growth. He was a listener and accepting of every individual. He never criticized but could so cleverly share one of his stories allowing you to experience another perspective. Marvin, you have left your imprint on my life and in my heart. Rest well my dear friend for all is well with what you have done. JoAnn Mitchell
