Marvin Ray Thompson's Obituary
THOMPSON, MARVIN RAY passed away peacefully on July 22, 2014. Marvin was born July 7, 1921 in rural Collin County near the north Texas town of Celina. He was a graduate of North Texas State University in 1942 and, shortly thereafter, served with honor and distinction in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier, Wasp, in the Pacific fleet. Following his discharge, he resided in Dallas, Texas where he started a manufacturers’ representative business. He was widely known and respected in the toy industry and worked in that business until he retired. For several years, he worked in the woodworking shop at Edgemere, crafting wooden toys to be given to charities. He is preceded in death by his parents, Claud & Ida Flanery Thompson and his wife, Louise Milligan Thompson. Marvin was married to Louise for 58 years before her death in 2000. He is survived and will be fondly remembered by his daughter, Marvilou; sons, Jim and his wife, Donna, and Mark and his wife, Kelly; grandchildren, Ryan Walters, Lindsay Pyle, Heather Rivera, Ashley Barton, Erica Thompson, Chrissy Thompson and Reid Thompson; great grandchildren, Katie Walters, Hannah Walters, Dustin Pyle, Abby Pyle, Julie Barton and James Barton. He is also survived by his brother, Louis Thompson as well as several nieces and nephews. Marvin was proud of his service as past master of the Scottish Rite Washington Lodge 1117 in Richardson, Texas. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Edgemere where Marvin has lived since 2004, particularly Vera Davis and Carrie Steinhoff who were dear to him and made his life better in many ways. On Saturday July, 26, visitation will be held at 1:30 with the service to follow at 2:30 in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital Dallas (tsrhc.org)
