Mary Katherine Baxter's Obituary
Everyone knew Mary Katherine Baxter as a woman of strong faith with a sweet heart and never an unkind word. Mary Katherine was born February 11, 1915 in Rockdale, TX to Lee Allen and Nettie Eugenia Baxter. She graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College and awarded her Master of Education degree from The University of Texas at Austin. Mary Katherine was a teacher and administrator for over 41 years in the Beaumont, TX Independent School District. She retired from Beaumont as Director of Secondary Instruction and moved to Plano, TX in 1983. During her career, Mary Katherine was proud of her involvement and leadership roles with Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Delta Kappa and the Texas State Teachers Association. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Beaumont and the First United Methodist Church in Plano. Ever the teacher, Mary Katherine could be found many Sunday mornings delivering the message to her Sunday school class. Never one to sit idle, Mary Katherine traveled the world with her friends and younger sister, Virginia Sanborn. At home, she was generous of her time serving others in multiple civic and social organizations. She was an avid bridge player and loved to read. She worked her crossword puzzles daily. She was an inspiration to so many and will be missed. Mary Katherine is survived by her nephew, Frank Allen and his wife, Carol Sanborn; nieces, Marilee and husband, AB Willingham, and Mary Ann and husband, Brian Heilweck. She is also survived by great nieces, Sandra Lee Frost and husband. Chuck and children. Taylor and Kennedy; Tracey Lee Bongat and husband. Jaime and children. Emily and Ella, Carrie Willingham, Maggie May Heilweck; great nephews, Don Sanborn Crook, and children, Hannah and Gracie, Steven Willingham, and Steven Baliad, as well as and many other close friends and family members. The visitation for Mary Baxter will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2014 in the chapel at First United Methodist Church of Plano, 3160 E Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, TX., 75074. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Plano or a charity of your choice
