Mrs Mary Bevans' Obituary
In loving memory, we announce that Mary Elizabeth Gilmore Capps Bevans was called home on November 25, 2020. We rejoice and celebrate the completion of her life of faith and love. Mary was born on July 2, 1931 in Dallas, TX to John and Bess Gilmore. Mary was raised in the South Oak Cliff area of Dallas, TX and graduated from Sunset High School. Mary attended Southern Methodist University where she met William Thomas Capps of Dallas, TX. They married and had four children. As a young family they joined Skillman Church of Christ where she served faithfully for over sixty years. Skillman’s spiritual family shaped Mary’s life as she modeled a deep commitment to Christ for all who knew her. Mary later married James P. Bevans of Dallas, TX where she gained three stepsons and together they had 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mary had a successful thirty year career in real estate with Hank Dickerson and William Rigg agencies. Mary’s exceptional people skills, attentive ear, and servant heart cultivated love and admiration for all who knew her. The highlight of her week was Ladies Bible Class where she enjoyed two of the things she loved most, studying her faith and developing deep friendships. In retirement, Mary loved to volunteer with her church, Meals On Wheels, and West Dallas Community School. She delighted in her work with first grade students where it brought her immense joy to see students fall in love with reading. Besides being a daughter in Christ, Mary loved her roles as devoted wife, mother, and grand-mother. She was the grandmother who was never too tired for one more game of “Guess Who” or “Uno” and always had holiday treats and decor. She was happiest when spending time with family and pets.
She is survived by husband James P. Bevans; children: Louise (Charles) Pastorino, Ruth Ann(Robert) McCulloch, Sara (Michael) Furlich, Ted (Kelly) Capps, James Bevans, Jr., William Bevans, Mark (Kasey) Bevans. Grandchildren: Meg Pastorino, Beth and Arland Schnacker, Tinsley Capps, Ben Capps, Misty Maples, Josh Capps, Colin and Kari McCulloch, Sally Furlich, Rachel Furlich, Elizabeth Furlich, Shannon and Brian Morgan, Lauren and Roland Rodriquez, Beth and Juan Duenas, Billy Bevans, Bailey Bevans, and Blake Bevans.
