Mary D. Button's Obituary
BUTTON, MARY D. Born on July 4th 1913, Sinton, TX, passed away August 2, 2012. Mary was preceded in death by husband, Earle D. Button Sr. and is survived by daughters, Marilyn Robie & Betty Atkinson(Jimmy); sons, David(Elaine), Rick(Teri) & Tommy Button; as well as six grandchildren, two sisters and many nieces & nephews. Mary’s life was one of devotion to family & friends and of service to church & community. She was a member of DAR, DRT, Colonial Dames of America, The Review Club and in the 50’s, Dallas Charity League. Mary served on the Board of Dallas ARC. Each of these organizations benefited from her leadership and dedication. Her hobbies included gardening and flower arranging for which she earned many awards and qualified as a National Flower Show Judge. Mary’s many years of service to the Methodist Church began as a youth leader in Houston. Later she served in many roles from President to committee chair of the United Methodist Women in several churches. In 1966, Mary was honored when chosen by the Women’s Division of the UMC to serve on the first “World Understanding Team” in Zambia, Africa. In 2004, LLUMC presented her with the Heritage Award for outstanding, exemplary service as a loyal church member. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics Texas, 7715 Chevy Chase Dr., Ste 120, Austin, TX 78752. A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held in the Tom Shipp Chapel, Lovers Lane UMC at 11:30am on Saturday, August 11th.
