Mary Esther Bynum's Obituary
Mary Esther Paquet Bynum of Richardson, Texas passed away on June 16, 2024. She was born in El Paso, Texas on January 22, 1931, to Rev. Andrew and Esther (Lea) Paquet. Her father was a minister in the Rio Grande (Spanish speaking) conference of the Methodist Church.
She graduated from Austin H.S. in El Paso and then attended McMurry University in Abilene, Texas graduating in 1952. This is where she met and married her husband of 59 years, Raymon L. Bynum. Mary Esther was proud to support Raymon when he served as Commissioner of Education for the State of Texas.
She obtained her B.S. degree in Elementary Ed and Spanish. The majority of her teaching career was spent in Richardson ISD where she started teaching Spanish via closed circuit TV for 3rd through 6th graders. She became known as “Senora Bynum” for a generation of students in RISD and is still recognized as such to this day.
Mary Esther and her husband were loyal supporters of First United Methodist Church as well as McMurry. McMurry University recognized Mary Esther as one of its most loyal supporters on many occasions.
Mary Esther was preceded in death by her husband in 2009. She is survived by her children. Kathleen Lunson, Susan Bynum, Les Bynum and wife Lori. Grandchildren Ashley Donald (Mark), David Lunson, Annie Buckert (Jason) and Allison Harden (Sterling) and five great grandchildren. Her sister, Alice Wambold (James) and brother Andrew Paquet (Renee) also survive her, also many in-laws, nephews and nieces
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday June 24 at 4:00 PM First United Methodist, Richardson, 503 North Central Expressway with reception to follow.
