Dr. Mary Veronica Donaghey's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Veronica Donaghey, of Dallas, Texas, on Thursday, September 14, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. At this time, there are no plans for a memorial service.
Mary was born on March 18, 1960, at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Gary, Indiana, and she was the beloved daughter of her late parents, Patrick and Frances Donaghey. She was a woman of remarkable achievements and boundless compassion.
Mary's academic journey led her to Purdue University, where she pursued her passion for management. She graduated with a degree that would pave the way for a remarkable career. For 21 years, Mary dedicated herself to the Zale Corporation in Irving, Texas, where she began as a financial analyst and rose to the position of director of merchandise planning.
In 2004, Mary decided to follow her heart's calling, embarking on a new path in counseling. She pursued her Ph.D. in Counselor Education, achieving this milestone in 2013. Mary's transition into the world of counseling was marked by dedication and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
Throughout her career, Mary served as a special education counselor at Delay Middle School, Forestwood Elementary School, and Durham Middle School. She touched the lives of countless students, providing guidance, support, and understanding during their formative years. Mary also shared her knowledge and wisdom as an educator, teaching various counseling theories and supervising numerous counseling courses in the Dallas and Denton County school districts.
Mary's passion for her field extended to her contributions as a published author. She authored more than a dozen papers and publications, leaving a lasting impact on the field of counseling. Her work was widely respected and admired by her peers.
Mary's dedication to her profession was further exemplified by her membership in prestigious academic honor societies, including CHI SIGMA IOTA and PHI KAPPA PHI. These memberships were a testament to her commitment to excellence in education and counseling.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mary was a cherished sister and friend. Her warm heart and caring nature touched the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will forever treasure the memories of her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support
