Mary Savage Forrest, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend passed on to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 7, 2022. She was 95 years old.
Mary was born in Dallas, Texas on April 23, 1927 to parents Claude and Marguerite Savage. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Mary studied art at North Texas Agricultural College, now known as UTA. While attending an event at Lee Park, Mary met Ira Bragg Forrest, Jr., her beloved partner in life. They were married in Dallas on January 30, 1946. They remained in Dallas until 1950, and then moved to Oklahoma City where they lived for 12 years. Mary and Ira then moved back to Dallas which became their permanent home.
Mary dedicated her life to raising their five children, cultivating lifelong friendships and supporting her husband's career as an executive with Mack Trucks. Mary's hobbies included her bowling league, trout fishing in Colorado and striper fishing on Lake Texoma where she enjoyed many wonderful times with her children and grandchildren at their beautiful lake home. She was a real movie buff, enjoyed cooking and was an excellent baker. Mary was a long-time member of Spring Valley Methodist Church in Dallas.
Mary was an avid card player, rarely turning down a game. She provided endless entertainment to her friends and family. Mary was blessed to have a circle of friends who loved her company and did not mind losing a hand or two to her from time to time.
Mary was a true lady. She exemplified grace, compassion and fortitude. Mary loved telling jokes and had a sharp and playful wit treating everyone with the utmost kindness and respect. She was indeed one of a kind and will be dearly missed.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 67 years and her two brothers, Claude T. Savage, Jr. and John Edward Savage. She is survived by her five children: Susan Forrest Hayes (Roger), James Michael Forrest (Dawne), Ira Bragg Forrest, III, Karen Forrest Stickle and Robert Alan Forrest.
