Mary Jean Gaffaney's Obituary
GAFFANEY, MARY JEAN CRAWFORD born October 29, 1929 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Vol Crawford and Viola I. (Harden) Crawford. Mary grew up in Ada, Oklahoma. She attended East Central State Colliege in Ada, Oklahoma as well as the University of Oklahoma. Mary finished her undergraduate degree at Texas Women’s University. She married George Glen Gaffaney on June 12, 1952. They had three children all of whom are surviving: Pamela L. McCurrach and husband David of Columbia, TN, James Michael of Garland, TX and Thomas Andrew and wife, Fern of Forney, TX. She is survived by five grandchildren: Braden McCurrach of New York City, NY, Ashley McCurrach of Denver, CO, Kendal Lasota and husband Jake of Jacksonville, FL, Kyle Gaffaney and wife Amanda, and their daughter Payton stationed in Norfolk, VA with the US Navy and Tara Gaffaney of San Antonio, TX. Also survived by sister, Pat Bell and husband Dan and her children Dave Ponder and Christy Johnson; brother, Phillip and wife Denie and their children Stacey Sulzen and Candy McNeese. Mary was preceded in death by her parents. Mary taught at White Rock Elementary school in the Richardson Independent School District for 10 years. She returned to school to receive her graduate degree from East Texas State College and then worked at Jackson Middle School in the Garland Independent School District as a counselor for 11 years. Mary was a member of the Chickasaw Indian Nation of which she was very proud. The two greatest things that brought her joy were her family and her Lord. Mary was very active in Christian work. She volunteered at her church St. James Episcopal Church, at the Austin Street Homeless Shelter, a nursing home, as well led Bible studies in her home. She took both family and friends to theatrical plays, symphonies, museums and the arboretum. She was an encouragement to many with her positive attitude and smile!!
