Mary Beth Geiger's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Beth Geiger of Carrollton-Farmers Branch passed away on December 12, 2023. Mary Beth had a full and glorious life of nearly 93 years which is honored and celebrated. Her life was filled with astounding love for her family, God, education, and helping others.
She was born on January 27, 1931 to Dr. William Riley and Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Cagle Snow in Abilene, Texas; she was the youngest of four children. Mary Beth first attended Texas State College for Women (now TWU), then transferred to, and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas in 1951.
She married John Joseph Crutchfield (deceased 1977) in July 1949. After graduation from UT, they moved to Abilene for John to begin his law practice. Mary Beth was active in their five children’s lives, as well as the community. She served in several local organizations, including the Abilene Panhellenic Chapter and numerous sailing committees. She was a licensed pilot and a member of the local Ninety-Nines (female aviators) organization. She returned to Hardin Simmons University to obtain her teaching certificate, then began teaching in the Abilene ISD in 1967. The Crutchfields moved to Farmers Branch, Texas in 1968, where she continued her teaching career in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. She furthered her education by receiving a Master of Education from TWU in 1980.
Mary Beth met Mr. Paul Geiger at Royal Haven Baptist Church, Farmers Branch, and they married in May 1981. The Geigers became members of First Baptist Church at the Fields and were active in the Forerunners Senior Ministry. Mary Beth and Paul were jointly awarded the ‘Bob Asbill Service Award’ in 2015, honoring their service to both the community and church. The Geigers took numerous trips with Forerunners, both in the United States and abroad, including several mission trips to New York City.
Mary Beth retired from her teaching career in 1997, although she continued to be active in the school system for several more years. She was a Charter Member of the C-FB Retired School Personnel Association and remained a member until her passing. In 1992 she was honored as ‘Teacher of the Year’ by C-FBISD. Mary Beth ended her 30-year teaching career having taught first grade her entire time in education.
Mary Beth spent her final years at Briarview Senior Living in Carrollton, where she made numerous friends, and loved the activities and opportunities provided there. She participated in First Baptist Church at the Fields live stream church services as well as the services offered by Prestonwood Baptist Senior ‘In Touch Ministry’ at Briarview. A loving heartfelt thanks to all the associates at Briarview for caring for Mary Beth.
Mary Beth is survived by her children: Margaret and Stan Luse of Highland Village; Susan and Mike Cotten of Kingsland; Joe and Jean Crutchfield of Coppell; David and Mary Crutchfield of Rockwall; Diane and Mike Schrage of Mineola; stepson Doug and Leslie Geiger of Forney; 30 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and an untold number of dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Dr. and Mrs. W.R. Snow; husband John Crutchfield; husband Paul Geiger; brothers William Snow and Dr. Joseph Snow; sister Nona Mae Fain; stepson Steve Geiger; and step grandson Chris Geiger.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00AM on January 15, 2024, at First Baptist Church at the Fields, Carrollton, Texas. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Texas Baptist Men (TBM), The Gideons International, or a philanthropy of your choice.
Mary Beth left her family and friends with many precious memories of her amazing life. She will be greatly missed.
