Mary Jane (Grimes) Slaton's Obituary
SLATON, MARY JANE (GRIMES) entered into her eternal home on Monday, March 25 to join our Heavenly Father and her beloved Herman, who preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Jeniebel White and Sarah Edmonson and brothers, Jim, Bill and Tom Grimes. Daughter of Jim Grimes and Sallie Welch Grimes, Mary was born in Paris, TX and had lived in Placerville since 2001. She is survived by daughter, Sarah Slaton Henjum and her husband, Stanley and grandchildren, Clifford and Courtney. Mary graduated from high school in Oklahoma at the age of 16. She attended St. Paul’s nursing school in Dallas, TX earning her RN. She and Herman married in 1947 and lived in Dallas until 1991 when they returned to their hometown of Paris, TX. Mary enjoyed her many years of working for Drs. Thompson and Thompson in the Medical Arts Building in downtown Dallas. She was also the “go to” nurse in our neighborhood for allergy shots. She was very active in her churches, Centenary United Methodist and Calvary United Methodist (Paris, TX) After their retirement, Mary and Herman enjoyed many fun filled vacations with their friends from Centenary United Methodist Church. We are sure those friends were also at the gates of Heaven to greet their friend. She also was a long time volunteer at the hospital in Paris, TX and in skilled nursing at Gold Country Health Center during the time that Herman was a resident. The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation for the kind and loving care shown to Mary by the staff in the Assisted Living wing of Gold Country Health Center. A service will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel. A viewing will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home.
