Mary Martha Grooters' Obituary
Grooters, Mary Martha was born on February 23, 1914, and lived the first half of her life in The Netherlands. The second half she gratefully lived in Arizona and, finally, Texas. After surviving tuberculosis and the German occupation of Holland, she and her family courageously emigrated to the US to begin a new chapter in Arizona. Mary died peacefully in her home on November 27, 2012, at age 98. She outlived her husband, Hendrik Jan Grooters, by 17 years. They are survived by daughters, Enika Schulze and Harriet Dishman; sons-in-law, Richard H. Schulze and Bruce Dishman; granddaughter, Christina Dishman; and great grandson, Patrick Dishman. Educated as a teacher in Holland, she became an accountant in the US. Ultimately, far ahead of her time, Mary became Vice President, CFO, and Treasurer of Investors Counsel, an early mutual fund company in Houston. At age 98 she still did her daily crossword puzzles, scheduled her own assistants, and played bridge whenever she could find partners. After a private burial, memorial services will be at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 1, 2012 led by Dr. Blair Monie and the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir. The family thanks the many assistants at Caruth Haven Assisted Living Center directed by Christi Connor and private assistants Jennie Battle, Jessie Gunter, and Almaz Woldemarian. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Music Department.
