Mrs. Mary Karr Handley's Obituary
Mary Karr Handley, a beloved former elementary school teacher, piano teacher and public speaker, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 13, 2023, at the age of 85. Mary left an indelible mark on the countless lives she encountered along her journey. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Mary was born in Dallas, Texas in 1938 to Jack and Anna Mary Karr who both preceded her in death. She grew up in a loving home, surrounded by the values of kindness, generosity, and a passion for education. These principles and her strong Christian faith became the foundation of her life, and she passed these beliefs on to her children and grandchildren. Mary Graduated from TCU in 1959 with a degree in Elementary education. In 1957 Mary married the love of her life, Richard Handley, and they embarked on a beautiful journey together. Although Richard had preceded her in death, their union was filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Their love story remains an inspiration to all who knew them and they were indeed “Pals Forever”.
Mary had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved traveling and exploring new places, immersing herself in different cultures and creating lifelong memories. Mary cherished each adventure, whether it was an exotic destination or a weekend getaway. Her passion for travel taught her the value of experiencing the world and broadened her perspective on life.
Mary's joyful spirit was evident in every aspect of her life. She had an infectious laughter that could brighten any room and a smile that radiated warmth and love. Her generous heart knew no bounds, as she selflessly gave her time, support, and resources to those in need. Mary had an innate ability to make others feel seen, heard, and valued.
One of Mary's most cherished pastimes was attending TCU football games with her daughter Kari’s family. She was a dedicated fan with Season Tickets who cheered on her favorite team with enthusiasm and spirit. The excitement of game day was a source of joy and camaraderie for Mary and her whole family.
She loved her dear friends from the many groups in which she was active, including her bible studies, Bunco games, book clubs and her North Dallas High School Alumni Association.
Mary is survived by her loving family, including her sister, Suzie Duckworth, her children, Kari Hall (Derek) and Kaye Chatelle (Mike), Scott Handley (Robb Greenhoe), grandchildren, Ali, Mackenzie (David), Miriam, Jack, Marya (Adam), and Evie, two great grandchildren, Henry & Emma, and extended family and dear friends. In this time of loss, let us celebrate her life and the profound impact she had on the world. May her soul find eternal peace with her Lord and Savior and her dearly missed husband, Richard. May her light continue to shine brightly in our hearts. One of her favorite Bible verses were “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7.
