Mary Jacqueline Hinds' Obituary
Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Hinds, at the age of 95, departed peacefully from this world into the arms of her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 26, 2022. She was a loving, caring wife & mother, and grandmother, sister, aunt, & friend.
Jackie was born to Samuel W. & Maud Mills on May 26, 1927, in Dallas, TX. She grew up during the Great Depression on a dairy and cotton farm in Euless, TX. She had many wonderful stories to tell (fun, exciting, & sad) of her family and a bygone era. Her dear husband, Fred, of 66 years preceded her in death, along with her four siblings: Juanita, Sam, Jozetta, & George Ernest.
When Jackie & Fred went on their first date, he told her he was going to marry her. That didn’t sit too well with her, but as we all know “the rest is history.” During the midst of WWII, Fred joined the Navy and Jackie, after graduating high school in Euless, attended nursing school. Following the war, Fred & Jackie married on April 29, 1946. They eloped because she was still in nurses training. Due to stringent school rules, she was not allowed to get married, to which eventually, she turned in her resignation. During the time of raising their two sons, Fred’s job moved them from Odessa to Houston to Richardson, TX. In Odessa, they were active at Belmont Baptist Church where Jackie taught Sunday school and helped in the youth group, serving as a leader in the Girl’s Auxiliary (G.A.’s). In Richardson, they were longtime members of First Baptist Dallas, making more close friends, and where Jackie became involved with Conversational English – teaching English to Japanese ladies. She was an avid listener of Chuck Swindoll, and very passionate about praying for missions. She loved God’s creation: birds (Cardinals especially!), flowers (Texas Bluebonnets, Irises, Daffodils . . . maybe all of them!), cats, nature, the list goes on. She loved taking trips, exploring new places, and talking to just about anyone. And most of all she loved the Lord above and loved and adored her family!
Jackie is survived by her two sons, Carl (Paulette) Hinds of Wylie, TX, and Jack (Diana) Hinds of Pittsburg, TX; her grandchildren, Lori (Lee) Root of Fate, TX, and Freddy Hinds of Richardson, TX; her step-grandchildren, Paul (Melissa) Connour of Little Elm, TX, David (Nikki) Connour of New Haven, KY, Charity (Butch) Gordon of Athens, TX; her step-great-grandchildren, William, Joshua, Rachel, Tiffany, and John of Mabank, TX.
The Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 10, at 2:00 pm, in Wildwood Chapel, at Restland Funeral Home & Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
