Mary (Joanne) J. Languell's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Josephine (Joanne) Languell, announces her unexpected passing on Oct. 3, 2020 at her home in Richardson, TX.
Joanne will be lovingly remembered by her children; Mary Elizabeth (Gene) Pilkington, Chris (Ann), and Jon (Florencia). She will never be forgotten as Gramma Jo by her seven grandchildren; Gene Jr, Ross, and Brooklin, Christopher and Cole, and Nico and Maximo. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jimmy Dale Languell; her parents, Gurdon and Josephine Williams; and her beloved sister, Julie Williams Ward. Joanne also leaves behind remarkable friends whom she considered family.
Joanne was born on March 19, 1942 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She attended Dunbarton College of Holy Cross and graduated with a degree in Education from Southern Connecticut State University. After teaching for several years, Joanne stayed home to raise her three children. She later went on to be a consultant in educational sales. During retirement, Joanne volunteered as an usher at ATT Performing Arts Center in Dallas, a mentor with Reading Partners, Dallas ISD, and most recently, shared her time with Scottish Rite for Children Hospital in both, Dallas and Frisco, TX. Joanne was strong in her faith and a long time member of St. Mark the Evangelist in Plano, TX and later, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson, TX. She enjoyed yoga, Jazzercise, and attending and hosting Sunday Night Supper Club. Joanne will always be remembered for her vivacious personality that couldn’t be missed. She had no greater love than spending time with her grandchildren, children, and dear friends. Her family will treasure her unconditional love as well as every moment spent with her. Joanne was never afraid to join in and go down that slide at the playground with her grandchildren, dig in the sand at the beach, or play board games for hours with them. She supported them at sporting events and activities, and beamed with pride when she spoke of her grandchildren’s accomplishments. It is an understatement to say that Joanne will be deeply missed. May we all try to live with a little more spirit in her honor.
The funeral mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7th at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church (3990 W University Drive Prosper, Tx 75078).
A burial service will also be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date due to current conditions. Her family hopes to plan a Celebration of Life for Joanne at that time as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org
