Mary "Kay" Kathryn Mitchell's Obituary
Kay Mitchell was born July 21, 1927, in Hillsboro, Texas to Charles D. and Katheryn Jackman. She passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 97.
After graduating from Baylor University with a degree in Business Administration, she moved to Dallas, working for Southwestern Life Insurance Company. She later accepted a secretarial position with missions at The Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
Kay then rededicated her life to the Lord at First Baptist Church, Dallas and made many friendships there. She married into the military and lived in several states and overseas, having opportunities to serve at established and startup churches. The Lord blessed her with four children whom she dearly loved.
Kay returned to Dallas in 1975, working for Sun Oil Production Company for 14 years. After retirement, she worked at Terrace Elementary through the Richardson Independent School District for six years as a teaching aide.
Kay was most grateful for the opportunities to serve at First Baptist Church Richardson, where she taught in the children’s ministry department for over 40 years, led mission trips, initiated the Angel Tree ministry and served as a deacon.
She is survived by sons Gary Mitchell and his wife Jodi, Duane Mitchell, Terry Mitchell and his wife Cuc, and daughter Dawn Moody, and grandsons Brandon, Nathan, Chandler and Tucker.
The family would like to thank The Family’s Choice, Joy Mmbifwa, Alice Mugehera and team for the excellent care given our mother during this season of her life.
