Mary Alys Kennard's Obituary
We celebrate the beautiful life of Mary Alys Kennard, a woman always ahead of her time, continually seeking new challenges both mentally and physically. Mary's journey, which began in Los Angeles, California on June 20th, 1939, was marked by boundless enthusiasm and a zest for life that inspired all who knew her.
In the 1960's, she was the Leader of troops of both Blue Birds and CampFire Girls, all while continuing her college studies and riding to her classes on a motorcycle. Graduating with a degree in Computer Science from UTD in 1978, Mary pursued her career with intelligence and resilience. Her hardworking spirit and optimistic outlook endeared her to colleagues and friends alike. Mary retired in 91’ from Texas Instruments.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richardson for 53 years, singing in the Chancel Choir the last 23 years. The Choir sang in many cathedrals in Europe, including St Peter's in Rome, the cathedral in Charts, France, St Mary's in Dublin, Ireland, and Cologne cathedral in Germany.
Mary's passion for Travel and Outdoor Activities took her around the globe. She relished running marathons worldwide and completed over 50 of them including the Boston Marathon five times, Paris (France) Marathon twice and the Jackson 50 (50 miles) Marathon, often accompanied by her loving family, creating unforgettable memories cherished by all. Her adventurous spirit and kind nature made every journey a joyful experience.
Mary was the heart of her family, deeply loved by her spouse Earl Kennard, and her children Marie Kennard, Chris Kennard (Annette), Lyndel Vargas, and stepson Rick Schmitt. She was a proud grandmother to Shelby (Brian), Jamie, and Blayne, and a doting great-grandmother to Kai and Koa. Mary's warm and generous spirit touched each member of her family, creating bonds that would last a lifetime.
Her vibrant personality was marked by her key traits: Resilient, Intelligent, Hardworking, Optimistic, and Kind. These qualities not only defined her life but also served as a beacon to those around her, inspiring many to pursue their dreams with courage and joy.
Mary's legacy is one of love, adventure, and unwavering optimism. Though she passed away in Allen, Texas on January 22nd, 2025, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
