Mary Margaret Lyons' Obituary
Mary Margaret Eksell Lyons, born June 29, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed away March 23, 2022 in Garland, Texas. She was the only child of her parents who preceded her in death, Frank L. and Georgia P. Jones Eksell. She was a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and also the University of Texas at Dallas, where she earned her Masters Degree in Special Education. She retired from Children, Inc., a private school specializing in special needs students, in Dallas, Texas.
Mary enjoyed music, either singing, playing the piano or organ. She was the organist at St. Andrews United Methodist Church and later at Advent Lutheran Church, both in Dallas, Texas. She and late husband, George, became members of Oak Cliff Lutheran Church and she was their substitute organist.
Mary was a 72 year member of the South Gate Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Des Moines, Iowa and an alumna of Chi Omega.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George E. Lyons, in 2002.
She is survived by her daughters Theresa Fisher and husband Karl of Petaluma, California and Janice Oleson and husband Eric of Garland, Texas; Grandchildren Anne Mentch and husband Matt of Sacramento, California; Alison Fisher and fiance' Sam Hock of Daly City, California; David Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Daniel Oleson of Garland, Texas and Justin Oleson and financee' Kathryn Green of Garland, Texas and Great Granchildren Max Oleson and Jason Woodham, both of Dallas, Texas.
Interment of cremains will be held at a later date in the family plot in Des Moines, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA of Dallas or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
