Mary Ann McFarland's Obituary
Mary Ann passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6th, 2025 at her home in Dallas. She was born March 15th, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to Lester James Cappleman and Ruby Lee (Dawson) Cappleman. Mary Ann graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and later attended East Texas State Teacher’s College in Commerce, Texas.
She had an extensive career in fashion sales working as a sales representative for multiple apparel lines including Intuitions, Mondi and Dalton. In 1991 Mary Ann switched careers to become the house mother for the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at Southern Methodist University until her retirement in 2009.
Mary Ann loved spending time with her family more than anything. Whether it was a grandchild’s birthday party, a weekend at the lake or just a casual dinner, she never wanted to miss a second of the action.
If you knew Mary Ann for any time, you knew she was a kind soul with a big forgiving heart. You also knew she loved Dr. Pepper and drank it at every meal her entire life! Upon her passing it is expected that sales of the carbonated beverage will significantly decline.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father Lester James Cappleman, mother Ruby Lee Cappleman and brother James Clark Cappleman.
Survivors include her son James Stuart McFarland and wife Carelgean of Frisco, her daughter Julie Hagood and husband Robert of Dallas, and her grandchildren, Macie Bryn McFarland, Johnathan James Hagood & Ryan Miller Hagood. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the SPCA of Texas.
Memorial Services for Mary Ann McFarland 86 will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, March 27th, 2025 at Perkins Chapel on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, reception to follow at the Hagood residence, 6042 Desco Drive.
