Mary Hughleen McKenzie Gross' Obituary
Mary Hughleen McKenzie Gross, 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 30th in Sherman, Texas. She was born on June 10, 1932 in Rockingham, North Carolina to Hughie Judson McKenzie and Johnsie Isabel Maner where she was raised. She married the love of her life, Sidney Lon Gross, on December 26, 1954. After initially making their home in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the couple settled in Richardson, Texas in 1969 and became devoted members of Waterview Church of Christ.Hughleen went to Rockingham High School where she was a majorette and later attended Wingate Junior College. Hughleen was a devoted wife to Sid and mother to their two daughters while working at various jobs. She also served several years with the Plano Junior League where she helped with coat drives and various other fundraising for local schools. “Mom” loved her family, friends, LOA group, visiting Myrtle Beach with family and, most importantly, her Christ Savior. She was a loving grandma and great grandma who always played music, sang, or told jokes. Later in life she and Sid even kept one of their great grandsons one day a week during the first year of his life. She was youthful and sprite into her later years, finding joy and happiness in her pets as well. The dogs never missed a meal.Hughleen is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Lon Gross, parents, Hughie and Johnsie McKenzie as well as her siblings Patricia McKenzie Boone and husband Kenneth, Geraldine McKenzie Peoples, and William McKenzie.She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Kacvinsky and her husband Tim of Trophy Club, TX, Melissa (Lisa) Zadow and her husband Doug of Melissa, TX; granddaughters, Sydney Williams and her husband Joe Ryan of Aledo, TX and their children, Judson, Bishop, Rowan and Hogan; Shelby Guthrie and her husband Aaron of Argyle, TX and their children, Reid and Rhett; Skyler Zadow of Melissa, TX; and grandson Peyton Kacvinsky of Justin, TX; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Hughleen is also survived by two brothers, Mike McKenzie and wife Brenda of Rockingham NC; Keith McKenzie and wife Donna of Rockingham, NC; sister in law, Peggy McKenzie of Rockingham, NC; and brother in law, Buddy Peoples of Fayetteville, AR.Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, February 8th at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 9th at First Baptist Church, (First Melissa), 2101 E Melissa RD., Melissa, Texas.Burial will follow at Melissa Cemetery.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Robert and Willora Oglesby Foundation.
