Mary Monette (Monnie) Scott Carr's Obituary
Mary Monette (Monnie) Scott Carr was born on October 11, 1933 in the small town of Ranger, TX. Her eternal life began February 6, 2019, peacefully at home with loving family by her side. She received countless cards, calls and emails during her last weeks with us. Her many, many loving friends from her Barnabas Sunday School class and her State Fair of Texas friends were precious and faithful to her.Monette is preceded in death by her parents Juanita Adkins Scott and Lloyd Allen Scott. She is survived by her husband Bill Carr, her daughter Laura Carr Trotter and husband Eddie of Waco, Texas and her son Douglas Scott Carr and his wife Stacey Carr of Wylie and her sister Donna Scott Clark of Odessa, Texas. “Gran” had 2 grandchildren, Shannon Trotter and Seanna Trotter, 4 step-grandchildren, Amber, Josh, Jonathan and Elijah along with niece Karen Clark Maciula and nephew Tommy Allen Clark and several cousins.Monette graduated from Eastland High in 1953 and attended Hardin Simmons University. She eventually moved to Dallas working for Taylor Publishing and IBM. She married Bill, an IBM engineer and stopped working to raise her family. They joined Calvary Baptist Garland in 1972, making life long friends that she loved dearly. They moved their membership to FBC Garland in 2008.Her love of cooking/baking took her down many paths, beginning with cooking Wednesday night supper at Calvary for 350+ each week. And she was certainly a crowd pleaser! As well as, entering the baking contests at the State Fair of Texas starting in 1976. Through her 42 years of fair contests she received countless ribbons and a group of friends that loved and supported her faithfully. Fall was her favorite time of year, so at October fair time she was in her element. Her latest venture was food coordinator for her FBC Barnabas Sunday school class of 200+, mostly funeral lunches for families. She always said that her talent was food, so she used it as her ministry. And we are all so very glad she did. On a personal note, many of us in the family consider her humor and her wit as her greatest talent. Untold hours of laughing to the point of tears was her gift to us, one that will be eternally cherished, never forgotten and carried on with gusto.Thank you to all mom’s family and friends for your sweet notes, kind words, cards, emails and messages. It meant more to her than we can express.Visitation will be on Sunday, February 10, 2019 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Garland.
