Mary Shugart Owens' Obituary
OWENS, MARY S., born November 19, 1917 and passed away March 27, 2007. Preceded in death by her husband, William H. Owens; parents, Rev. Charles O. Shugart and Clara R. Shugart; and brother, Thomas R. Shugart. Survived by children, Margaret O. Redus & husband John of Plano, TX, Katherine O. Meserole & husband Gregg of Saugus, MA, and Bill Owens & wife Lisa of Ridgeland, MS; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Mary received a B.A. in History from Trinity University in 1938 and an M.S.W. from Case Reserve University in 1940. She married William H. Owens on July 23, 1943 in Mexia, TX. She lived in Jackson, MS from 1954 to 1999 and has since lived in Plano, TX. Mary was a longtime member of Broadmeadow United Methodist Church. She worked at Mississippi Methodist Children’s Home as a casework supervisor. Mary was active in Jackson, MS as a leader in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and a participant in mission projects of Broadmeadow UMC. Visitation will be from 7-9 PM Friday, March 30, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at 9 AM, Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Restland Abbey Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either The Privette School of Broadmeadow UMC, 4419 Broadmeadow Dr., Jackson, MS 39110 or Methodist Children’s Home, PO BOX 2589, Madison, MS 39130, or a charity of your choice.
