Mary Martha Sasse's Obituary
On the 24th day of September, 2014, Mary Cranford Sasse was called home to be with her loving God, and her husband Billy Malcolm Sasse. Mary was born to Erna and John Cranford, on June 18, 1925, in Little Rock, Arkansas where she lived until age 12. The family moved to Garland, Texas in 1937, where she would live out the rest of her life. Mary graduated from Garland High School in May 1942, where she was the class valedictorian. She was given a full-ride academic scholarship to the University of Texas, but did not attend due to family obligations. She was married on January 31,1945, in Newport News, Virginia to Billy Sasse, of Wylie, Texas. They married while he was at home on leave from the U. S. Army Air Corp. She met Billy during their years working at Resistol Hat Factory, and began a relationship that grew Into a life-long journey together.The journey culminated into a 62-year marriage, before Billy’s death on July 16, 2009. During her lifetime, Mary gave birth to to one daughter, Marla. Mary returned to the workplace when Marla went to middle school. She had a fulfilling and successful career as the Office Manager and Controller for Southwestern Battery Supply Company in Garland. Mary and Billy participated in enjoying life to the fullest. After years of ballroom dance lessons, they achieved the rank of “platinum level” dancers. They danced five nights a week for 30 years and were members of several ballroom dance clubs in Dallas. They were active members in the Elks Lodge and at Bethel Lutheran Church. During their long marriage, they went on many trips, including 21 cruises, many of which were throughout Europe. Mary leaves behind daughter, Dr. Marla Murphy and her husband, William Murphy, of Granbury, TX; one grandson, Blaine Murphy and his wife, Heather, of Dallas, TX; and two great grandchildren, Briggs and Blakely. The visitation for Mary will be Friday, September 26, 2014 from 4:00-6:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Mary will be on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home at 3:00PM, followed by a reception. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238.
