Mary Frances Shipley's Obituary
SHIPLEY, MARY FRANCES ABBOTT beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 28,2014. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 97, with loved ones at her side. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman, and her parents, Bertie Cope Abbott, and Charles M. Abbott. She is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Sandra; daughter, Nancy Lee, and her husband, Richard; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was adored by all who knew her for her gentle, loving nature and kind spirit. We will miss her dearly. Mary was born in McKinney, Texas on September 11, 1916. She grew up in Dallas and attended Highland Park High School and SMU, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She met her husband, Norman, at Oak Lawn Methodist Church in Dallas, and they were married on March 21, 1942. Mary and Norm were members of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. Mary loved to play bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs, one of which lasted for 48 years. She was a member of Greenway Garden club for many years. She was an avid reader, and was a huge fan of Regis Philbin, and she loved Notre Dame football. Mary enjoyed watching golf and her Dallas Cowboys. Vistation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Family graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 2, 2014 at Restland Memorial Park.
