Mary Allison Smith's Obituary
Mary Allison Smith was many things: a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, a best friend, strong willed, and caring to name a few. Of all these roles she played in the lives of the individuals she touched the most significant of these is how she exemplified what it meant to follow your own path. Born December 31, 1924 Mary Allison Smith was a determined individual and not constrained to the common conventions of her time. A graduate from Texas Southern University with subsequent employment with the Department of Defense at the Pentagon and the United States Postal Service Mary forged a unique path for her life. Even with the unconventional path Mary led it was the apparently minute actions that will forever be etched in her family’s memory. To her daughter Patricia it’s the afternoon phone calls to discuss what was coming on television, for her granddaughter Allyson it was the manner in which she provided support for her various educational endeavors, and for her grandson J it’s the summers spent together which consisted of breakfast and the “Price is Right” at 10:30 followed with a game of catch in the afternoon. To her daughters, Patricia and Saundra, Mary was a tough mother with great expectations. To her grandchildren, J and Allyson, she provided unconditional love and support. Even though Mary’s physical presence on this Earth came to an end on April 17, 2015, the lessons she has passed down to her family will last for eternity. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Saundra Smith. Her memory is carried on through her daughter Patricia Royal, granddaughter Allyson Royal, and grandson J Royal. Reflection and remembrance for Mary’s life will take place 10:00AM Thursday April 23, 2015 at Restland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243
