Mary Evans Strong's Obituary
Mary Evans Strong, age 96-1/2, resident of Dallas for 80 years, and of San Jose, CA for three years, passed away peacefully in her sleep from congestive heart failure, on January 7, 2014. Mary was born on June 8, 1917, in Muskogee, Oklahoma to O. Morris Evans and Kate Helen Place Evans. Mary was predeceased by her husband H. Raymond Strong and her brother O. Morris Evans Jr. Mary is survived by her sons, H. Raymond Strong Jr. and his wife, Gloria of San Jose, California and James E Strong and his wife, Dennis Ann of San Antonio, Texas. Mary is also survived by three grandchildren, Evan and his wife Crissy, of San Antonio, Sarah and her husband, Michael, of Tacoma, WA, and Alissa and her husband, Justin of Sacramento, CA. Mary is also survived by her 4 year old great-grandson, Carson Austin Strong; nephew, O. Morris Evans III; niece, Wanda Evans and many great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by dear friend, Robert Brewer of San Jose, CA. Mary was a 1939 graduate of Southern Methodist University and a member the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She and Raymond were active members and supporters of St. Luke’s Church, members of the North Dallas Country Club, and Mary was a founding member of the Penny Ante Club, one of the oldest women’s investment club in the United States. With her husband, Raymond, Mary enjoyed many adventures during a long and fulfilling life. She was a bridge player, golfer, fisher, hiker, flyer, world traveler, gardener, a wonderful and treasured mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mary was a genuine lady. Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home, Friday, January 17 from 6 till 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Church, Dallas, TX on January 18, 2014 at 2 pm. The family requests no flowers but welcomes letters and cards and attendance at the visitation and/or funeral for those who knew and loved Mary.
