Mary Ann Stuart Sherman's Obituary
Mary Ann Stuart Sherman was born January 28, 1931 and passed into the presence of her Lord on January 21, 2018.Along with her 3 brothers and sister Mary Ann was born and raised in Memphis, TN. She came to know the Lord as her Savior through Young Life at Memphis Technical High School which is where she also met her husband, Odom. They spent many summers at Young Life Ranches in Colorado and were actively involved in Young Life clubs throughout the Memphis area. During this time she also earned a 2-year certificate at Mid-South Bible College.Odom and Mary Ann were married in Memphis in 1953 then immediately moved to Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC while Odom completed his tour of duty in the Army. They returned to Memphis in 1954 where they started their family, and Odom completed his college degree from Memphis State University in 1956.In 1958, they packed up, said goodbye to both of their families in Memphis, and moved to Dallas for a new job opportunity and to start the next chapter in their lives. They continued their ministry with Young Life and eventually with the youth ministry at Northwest Bible Church (formerly Northwest Presbyterian Church), and added one more daughter to the family. Mary Ann was always proud of her career as a housewife, mother, and minister to all. She served alongside Odom with the Northwest High School ministry for many years, hosting the youth group meetings fondly known as “Shermans” at their house on Sunday nights and chaperoning many ski trips and weekend retreats. They were active in adult Sunday school groups, and Mary Ann was active with the women’s auxiliary and circle meetings. In 1982 she helped to establish a new ministry at Northwest called Three Score or More, a ministry for the senior citizens she loved so dearly and where she served for many years.Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Carlin O. and Annie Mae Stuart, two of her brothers, Carlin Stuart and Don Stuart, her sister Esther Scott, and her grandson Timothy Stuart Nichols. She is survived by her husband, Odom Sherman, her three daughters, Laura Sherman Nichols, Linda Sherman and Lucy Sherman, her son-in-law, Chris Nichols, three grandsons – Daniel Nichols (Karen), David Nichols, and Andrew Nichols (Sarah) as well as eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Herbert Stuart of Franklin, TN, her sister-in-law, Martha Muse of Memphis, TN as well as ten nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, and many, many good friends.Mary Ann loved people, she loved to serve others, she loved the Colorado Mountains, and she never met a stranger. Mary Ann loved her family and friends dearly, but most of all she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her, but we are confident she is rejoicing in her new body with the Lord and all the saints, family and friends who have gone before her.A celebration of her life will be held in the Faith Chapel of Prestonwood Baptist Church, Plano, TX on Monday, January 29th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missions Program at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
