Mary "Doris" Wilson White's Obituary
Mary “Doris” Wilson White was born on May 23, 1921, in Bronson, Texas (deep East Texas!), and died on November 21, 2017, in Friendswood, Texas. She was the tenth and last child of James and Mary Emily Harvey Wilson (“Mama Wilson”); and she enjoyed and benefited from the loving guidance and support of her Grandfather, the Reverend Wiley Harvey, a Baptist Circuit Preacher.Upon completing high school, she joined the Navy during World War II and became a nurse and took over the care of a handsome, charming and cocky Navy Lieutenant from Highland Park, E. F. White, Jr., after he was badly wounded during a Japanese aerial attack and battle involving his ship. Doris and E. F. married and initially settled in Highland Park and raised three children, along with some happy years living in Abilene, as well as overcoming Polio during her journey. When her kids were raised, she decided that she wanted to return to the “calling” that she loved and worked as a Registered Nurse at Richardson General Hospital and then at Medical City Dallas until she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling; and lived a full and rich life. She is survived by her son, Bruce, and her son, Alan, and his wife, Diane, and their blended families of her grandchildren, namely Josef, Ben, Ty, Alanna, Diandra and Michael, who she was so proud of and loved dearly, with a number of great-grandkids, who always made “Grandmother Doris” smile. Sadly, in 1984, Doris lost her angel and special daughter, Cheryl, who loved everyone and touched so many hearts. The Family wishes to thank Jackie Jean, Marilyn Ford Evans and Ruth Rios, who tirelessly cared for Doris with great love, respect and devotion during her final years.A service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in the Wildwood Chapel, at Restland Funeral Home located on Greenville Ave. in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to one of the special needs organizations for children.
