Mary Suzanne Zaemes' Obituary
Mary Zaemes was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 10, 1934 where she lived for most of her youth. During WW II her family relocated to Alexandria, Louisiana before returning to Oklahoma City after the war ended. She was active at church and much of her early life revolved around the Greek community and her family in OKC. As a young adult she was able to participate in a church-sponsored pilgrimage to many Holy Land sites in the Middle East.Her best friends growing up were her cousins. One of those cousins, George, introduced her to her future husband at a church picnic. She was married on January 31, 1960 to Theodore “Ted” Zaemes of Washington D.C. She worked in restaurants owned by her family while growing up and was well versed in both peeling potatoes as well as cashiering. She eventually managed the restaurant upon the death of her father until her retirement upon starting a family in 1961. She dedicated much time to raising her family and performing volunteer work at the schools attended by her sons. She was a member of both the Daughters of Penelope as well as the Philoptochos in the various Greek communities in which she resided. Preceded in death by her parents Bill and Demetra Panos; brother Steve Panos; and sister Christine Vassilopoulos; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Survivors include her sons Pete (Jeannie) of Denver and Bill (Georgia) of Dallas as well as her two grandsons: Jacob (Alyson) of Washington D.C. and Theo of Dallas as well as cousins, nieces and nephewsIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Rd, Dallas, TX 75240 or to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 2101 NW 145th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73134Trisagion service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 23 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Funeral Service held immediately following and then internment at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243.
