Matthew Soon Kwon Kim's Obituary
Matthew Soon Kwon Kim, 76, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. He was born on September 21, 1949, in Kwangju, South Korea to Heung Mo Kim and Soon Ok Kim.
On December 30, 1976, Matthew married Gemma Ji Eun Kim, in Kwangju, South Korea. Together they shared 48 years of marriage and raised their daughter, Mary, and son, Eugene. Matthew immigrated to the United States (Chicago) in 1977. He assisted in the immigration process of both his parents and four siblings in later years. He was baptized at the Immaculate Conception Church in Chicago in 1980. He moved to Dallas in 1992 where he was a small business owner for 15 years. He developed strong relationships with his customers due to his customer-focused approach and empathetic and attentive nature. Matthew was truly dedicated to his family. He was a caring, attentive and protective father, husband and son. He will be remembered as a true gentleman.
Matthew is preceded in death by his parents Heung Mo Kim and Soon Ok Kim and his brothers-in-law Donald Kmiec and Dah Sung Kim.
Matthew will be missed dearly by his wife, Gemma Ji Eun Kim; his daughter, Mary Kim; his son, Eugene Kim; his sister Myung Ja (Jong Duk) Kim; his sister Sylvia Kmiec; his brother Emmanuel (Young Jah) Kim; his brother Steve (Stephanie) Kim; his brother Thomas (Sarah) Kim; his sister Marianne (Hobin) Yim; ten nieces, ten nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 10 AM until 5 PM at Restland Funeral Home - Hydrangea Suite, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. Mass celebrating his life will be Monday, December 1, at 2PM at Restland Funeral Home - Wildwood Chapel with visitation an hour prior to mass.
