Mattie McLendon Floyd's Obituary
FLOYD, MATTIE MARY McLendon of Irving, TX peacefully passed away in her sleep the morning of Saturday, September 3rd. Mattie was a native of Mansura, Louisiana, born September 26, 1924, to Carl and Mamie McLendon. Mattie was a registered nurse whose career spanned 50 years. Highlights were her years as a compassionate and highly skilled surgical scrub nurse at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana and Head Nurse of the Emergency Room of Irving Community Hospital when it first opened in 1963. After retiring from nursing, Mattie shared her skills as a nurturing volunteer at the Ministry for the Poor in Dallas. Mattie was preceded in deth by her husband of 62 years, Charles Edward Floyd, of Irving, TX. She is survived and sorely missed by her five daughters: Florence and husband, David Denney of Burnet, TX, Mary and husband, Rick Tucker of Kingsland, TX, Charlotte and husband Jack Vlastelica of Port Matilda, PA, Susan and husband Gary of Maple Valley, WA and Cynthis Kemp of Irving, TX. Mattie has 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and three on the way wo will never be able to meet their precious great grandmother and benefit from her gentleness and creativity. A Vigil Service will be held Wednesday, September 7, 21011 at 7:30PM at the Church of the Incarnation at the University of Dallasin Irving, TX. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, September 8. She will be laid to rest with her husband at DFW National Cemetery at 1:15pm
