Mr. Maurice Henry Cockrell's Obituary
Maurice Henry Cockrell passed away peacefully January 11, 2021 in Garland, TX. He was born January 31, 1927 in Ponca City, OK. After graduating high school he and his parents moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1945, where he started work for Mobil Oil in 1949 until he was drafted for The United States Army in 1954. He served from 1954 to 1956 in Frankfurt (Germany) as a PVT-2 Stenographer in the Korean War. He used his free time to travel to other countries. He returned to Mobil Oil as a Communications Analyst after his honorable discharge from The United States Army and in 1975 was relocated to Dallas, TX and continued to work at Mobil Oil until he retired in 1987. He enjoyed sports, especially Dallas Cowboys football. He was an avid tennis player. He was a member of Kissin’ Kuzzins’ Square and Round Dance Club out of Garland, TX from 1985 – 2014. He loved his family and the Lord and has been a long time member of Monica Park Christian Church in Garland, TX. He could always be found singing in the choir, playing the piano, playing hand bells, or just sitting with his family and friends on Sundays.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Edith Cockrell, and his son Derek Edmund Cockrell.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Doris Lou Cockrell; his daughter-in-law Sherri Williams; his granddaughters Christi Lyon and husband Richard Lyon, Jr. and Cori Cockrell; and his great grandsons Dylan, Robert, Noah, & Lucas Lyon, Jaxson Adams, and Kevin Tillery.
