Mavis Moor's Obituary
Anna Mavis Stinson Moor (December 6, 1920 ~ February 18, 2015) was born in Bisbee, AZ to Marie G. and Arthur David Stinson. She grew up in Phoenix, AZ and graduated from Phoenix Junior College before beginning work for the US Army Air Corps at Thunderbird Field outside of Phoenix. There she met her husband of 44 years, Capt. Isaac Lowery (Larry) Moor. During his career as an airline pilot, the family lived in Kansas City, MO, Sioux City, IA and Dallas. Mavis was active as a realtor in the Dallas area for many years. She was also a member of several auxiliaries of Braniff International Airways and of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Dallas. In her many years of raising three daughters, Mavis served as a scout troop leader and excelled as a special occasion and costume seamstress. Other hobbies included playing the piano and singing. Her favorite sports were tennis and golf. In late retirement, Mavis made her home at Windsor Senior Living in Dallas. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, daughter Dina Moor of Dallas and sister Thelma Grace Stinson Mathis of Phoenix. She is survived by sisters Marie Stinson Wright and Peggy Stinson Thompson, both of Carlsbad, CA, sister Bobbie Stinson Jacques of Aptos, CA and brother Arthur D. Stinson, Jr. with his wife Donna of Pearce, AZ. Also surviving are daughters Celia Moor Hawpe of Edmond, OK with her son Adam Jones and Ann Moor Jones with her husband Kenneth Jones and their children Heidi Jones Eggert, Jeremy Moor Jones and Beth Jones Vanderlip with their respective families. Also surviving his grandmother is Aaron M. Caughran with his wife Barbara and children. Mavis enjoyed each of her ten great-grandchildren. The visitation for Mavis will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Service for Mavis will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Dallas.
