Dr. Max Paul Goodfried's Obituary
Dr. Max Paul Goodfried of Dallas, died peacefully with his family Thursday, October 27, 2011. Max was born in New York City on July 3rd, 1916 to Emmanuel and Jeanette Goodfried. Truly a renaissance man, he received a scholarship to attend the Juliard School of Music at age 10 and was a concert pianist. He was admitted to Cornell University at age 16 as a pre-med student (and on the boxing team) and was admitted to the New York University School of Medicine as the school’s first Jewish student, receiving his medical degree in 1941; there he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. Max married Carolyn Stewart Munn, daughter of Ella and Donald Munn, in 1942. In 1943 Captain Goodfried began service to his country as a flight surgeon in the Army Air Corps where he received the air medal for meritorious achievement, flying many missions during the air war over Italy. Max is survived by Carol, his loving wife of 69 years, and his three children: Karen (Kay) and husband Ben Krage, Gary and wife Mickey, and daughter Debbie Goodfried-Moore. As well as grandchildren Bryan, Christopher and Katherine Goodfried, Jensen and Kristen Krage, nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Services at Restland Wildwood Chapel, 2 o’clock p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2011. Donations may be made to any charity of your choice in Max’s name.
