Beloved husband and father, Max was born February 8, 1918 to Marquis Adolphus Hibbs and Katherine Patricia Hibbs in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed us on March 28, 2009. Max is survived by Helena, his wife of 68 years, and their six sons; Marc, Tony, Greg, Nicky, Eric ,Chris and their wives. Max also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His sister, Ruth Amelia Becker, of Kansas City, preceded him in death. Fluent in Spanish, Max studied at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He graduated in 1939 from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and received his Master of Liberal Arts degree from Southern Methodist University in 1977. Retiring after enjoying a 43 year career with the Standard Register Company, Max spent many relaxing years traveling with Helena. In 1955, Max and Helena built their home overlooking White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. Thus began his life-long love of the lake and the surrounding area. An avid sailor, Max was a long-time member of the Corinthian Sailing Club, where he served as its Commodore, and Captain of the Corinthian fleet. Max attended Highland Park United Methodist Church as a member, and two-term preident of the 2×2 Sunday School. He served as the Chairman of the church’s popular Rajabian Book Review Series for 10 years. Max traveled extensively throughout the Western World and was an active member and past president of the International Good Neighbor Council, Acal de Mexico, and many other civic organizations. Max was also an active volunteer with the Dallas Arboretum and the Meadows Museum. On any given Sunday afternoon, Max could be found racing his sailboat on White Rock Lake. To Max, winning meant not coming in last. But to so many of us, Max was, and always will be, First.
