Max was a heck of a guy. I always knew it was gonna be a good time at the races when my dad told me Max was coming. He was just one of those people that you could tell really enjoyed life and always had fun living it. I'll never forget when my dad took my friend Chris and I to the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway. We stopped by to pick up Max on the way. He came out of his house wearing this crazy black and white checkered flag Nascar polo shirt. My friend immediately looked over at me when he saw the shirt and said "Is he gay?" To this day my dad and I still laugh about that. That's just the kind of guy Max was. He always knew how to get a laugh out of you. He was a great guy, and he will be greatly missed by anyone that ever got the chance to share a laugh with him.

1973 was a great year for me. That's when I met Max at Broadway Skateland. I had watched him zoom around the floor during speed practice. Then we ended up on the same pickup hockey team. He kept calling me George. Max's sense of humor was unmatched. No event was fun unless Max was there. He was a great example of a free spirit. He taught me have fun. He taught me forgiveness. We had so much fun together…going on road trips, skating meets, motorcycle races, double dates, or just hang out with Skeeter and talking football. Max, old buddy I love you and miss you dearly. Our hearts are saddened at the death of Max.. a long time buddy of our son, David. Our sympathy goes to the group of buddies who have been true to each other for almost 40 years. The loss is felt by all of them. We would say, miss him for a while, but then let him go. May the happy memories of the past replace the sadness of this hour. Remember him during your good times together and his memory will live on in the stories of the past. Our prayers and sympathy to Max and his family.

My husband Michael Goss knew max through his uncle donald and that is how i met him, i did not know him very long but enjoyed going to the races with him and my husbands family.I considered him to be a nice and funny person to hang out with, and my husband and I wish his family our love and condolences, we will miss him.

I was so sorry to hear of Max's untimely death. Terry and I have been friends with Max for many years and at one time he was married to Terry's sister, Rhonda. I remember going on double-dates with them when we were just kids and all of us skating back in the day at Broadway. He will always be eternally a "cute little boy" in my eyes. Although we have certainly aged, the last time I saw Max at our Broadway Skateland Reunion a few years ago, he still had that youthful look just like he did when we were teenagers. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

It has been said that the famous are rarely significant, but the significant are rarely famous. My friend Max was significant! Max, in the many lives he touched in his short time, will always be with us. He had no wealth or riches, but he touched us all and made us rich with his smiles, laughter and kindness. I recently heard the question asked, "Who is the happiest person in your life?" I tried to answer the question but at the time was at a loss. Today I'm struck because the answer is so obvious that it is Max. We met over 25 years ago working the night shift for the City of Dallas. Max was always being a prankster & would endlessly try to get your goat. You HAD to have eyes in the back of your head & had to know were he was at all times or else find yourself getting goosed – anywhere! Just ask Joe Carey, RC Castaigne, David Thompson, Bill Drexler and many others. I already miss him dearly. I miss his goofy greetings when he called me on the phone, I knew it was an instant smile as soon as I realized it was him. I even miss his freaky "finger to the palm" handshake that always made you jump at the weirdness of it.I extended my hand anyways knowing it was coming. "Joey" thanks for being such a special friend. The honor has been mine. ~"Joey"

My best memories of Max was going on road trips to places like Bossier City or Shreveport La. for speed skating meets. We really shared some great times back in the mid 70's at Broadway Skateland with the rest of our skating "family". The hockey games we played and the endless number of laps we raced around the skating floor are true memories that have shaped my life and Max was a big part of that. Regional skating events in Ft.Worth are as vivid now as then, with Max and I being on relay teams together. I am deeply saddend at his passing but my memory of him will forever be in my heart. Time will not erase those memories and I will see you again someday my friend.

Max what a friend. If you were having a bad day Max could make it a great day with his humor and his antics. Max was a true friend and I had some great times with him thruogh the years. I met Max when I first started working for the City of Dallas over 28 years ago. Max loved racing and loved going to the Devil's Bowl for the special shows, but there was one thing Max didn't like to do and that was pay to get in. So everytime there was a big show I would get a call and he would say when you get to the track call and tell me what color the stamp is and what it looked like. Max was a pretty good artist, he had a pack of magic markers and he would call me when he got to the track and I would get my hand stamped go to the parking lot and Max would draw the stamp on his hand and proceed to get in to the race. When he would sit down in the stands he would say you want to see me pull a rabbit out of my hat and he would reach down the sleeve of his jacket and out would come a cold beeeer. Max thanks for being my friend you were loved by many.To his family you had a fine son that touched so many lives and I was just fortunate to be one of those he touched. I will miss him very much thanks Max for being my friend and by the way, what color is the stamp?

Through my little brother David Findley, Max came into my life. I always enjoyed Max's sense of humor and was motivated to trade "quips" with him every time we were together. He was a special person and will be missed.
