I met Max in 1977 having the good fortune to be hired by him as a lending officer at the first bank he founded, Prestonwood National Bank in Dallas. Max became my mentor and over the next thirty plus years I was employed by him at various other banks he founded. Max was such a great person to work for and through his vast knowledge and support he made me, and many others, successful bankers. I was there to see the the hard work and countless hours Max put in to his civic endeavors. His personal involvement, in all those activities, was for the betterment of the Dallas community, never taking and always giving. Max lived an exemplary life. His good name was everything to him and there was never a more honorable and honest person. If Max told you he would do something you could consider it done, no exceptions. Several times I observed his living up to a commitment that worked to his detriment but it made no difference, he had given his word. We have lost a great and wonderful person. Dennis L. Van Fossen
