Maxie Lorene Madon's Obituary
Maxie Lorene Martin Madon was born in Smyrna, Georgia on May 9, 1926. She was the second of six children. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie Martin, and five siblings, Margie Adams, Willie Clark, Rowena Martin, Raymond Martin and Fowler Martin. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Bobby Madon; son, Mike/(Linda) Madon, daughters, Jackie Madon and Becky/(Tom) Collins; grandchildren, Chris/(Deanna) Madon, Melanie/(David) Steenbergen, Tara/(Reid) Jennings and Brenton/(Jessica) Collins; and three great-grandsons, Caden Steenbergen, Carson Jennings and Cooper Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents taught her obedience and trust in the Lord which was evident in her life. Maxie attended school in Smyrna, Georgia. She graduated high school in 1943.
Bobby’s Uncle Marion Beaver was friends with Maxie’s family. Uncle Marion introduced Bobby to Maxie. Maxie Martin turned out to be the love of Bobby’s life. They were married by Uncle Marion on July 26, 1947 in Georgia. They had seventy-three years together, a remarkable lifetime together. Mike came along early in their marriage followed two years later by the birth of Jackie and Becky completed their family ten years later.
Maxie managed the home front and supported Bobby in every way as he progressed in his career in the baking industry. His job took their family to several places across the country from Rocky Mount, North Carolina; Birmingham, Alabama; Chicago, Illinois; Greensboro, North Carolina; Plano, Texas; to Gladstone, Missouri and finally back to Plano for the warmer weather. Once the children were all on their own, they continued to move about for short periods of time for Bobby’s work to places such as the San Francisco bay area, Costa Rica, and LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Maxie’s friendly, outgoing and witty personality enabled her to make friends in the neighborhood and at church wherever they lived. No matter where they lived Bobby and Maxie found a church home and actively served the Lord. Maxie was very musically talented. She played the piano and sang in the choir at each of her church homes. She served for many years in children’s ministry at many of the churches. She loved to have fun and host friends at her home. Especially in Gladstone, Missouri, her house was alive with music and games most every weekend. A dear friend, Reuben, would be playing Amazing Grace on the organ in the living room while there was a cut-throat card game going on at the kitchen table. Maxie loved to crochet. She made many beautiful afghans and holiday creations for family and friends.
At ninety-four years young, Maxie was blessed with the longest life in her family thus far. She richly blessed those around her. One of her favorite scripture verses is Psalms 96:1-4.
“O sing unto the Lord a new song; sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; show forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised.”
We are so very thankful for the life she lived and that we were able to be part of her life. To God be the Glory! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church Plano Capital Campaign.
