Max Thomas' Obituary
Maxie Kent Thomas (83) of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024. He will be remembered as a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Max was born June 7, 1940, in Kemp, Texas, to parents Jewel and Lila Thomas. Max attended North Dallas High School participating in ROTC and the baseball team. Most importantly, it was where he met his sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Carolan. Max graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Texas in Arlington and earned his J.D. at SMU Dedman School of Law. Max was a member of the Texas National Guard. He served as legal counsel for Prudential Insurance, moved onto regional counsel for Travelers Insurance and spent his remaining years in private practice continuing real estate law. He was very proud to have been part of the Dallas Bar Association for over 57 years.
In his leisure time, Max enjoyed playing golf at Royal Oaks Country Club where he cherished friendships and laughter. He had a great love of food, music, and dancing with a larger-than-life personality that could fill a room. Max touched those he met with his charisma, unapologetic humor, and a beautiful heart. But what we endeared the most as a family was his unconditional love and support towards his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandsons. Max adored Carolan and built a life of beautiful memories and love. He was a father of all fathers towards Julie, being her biggest advocate in everything that mattered to her. He loved his son-in-law, Scott, and treated him like a son. As a grandfather, whether he was at school events, award ceremonies, or cheering from the sidelines during sports, Max was present front row in all his proud “Papa” glory.
Max was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, Billy and Donnie. He is survived by his loving wife Carolan, his daughter Julie, son-in-law Scott, grandsons Ryan and Brandon, his sister Nancy Moore, and many nieces and nephews he holds dear. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him. We cannot convey the loss we feel within our hearts, but knowing he is with our Lord in heaven gives us the peace which passes all understanding.
Max Thomas’ service will be held on Monday, June 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Restland Memorial Chapel connected to Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA of Dallas, North Dallas High School Alumni Association, or any charity of one’s choice made in his honor.
