Maxine Isabella Bardin's Obituary
BARDIN, MAXINE ISABELLA, Passed away peacefully on March 16 at the age of 94. She was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on March 3, 1914, daughter of William and Isabella Lees and was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Bardin, parents, and brothers, Joseph Lees and Samuel Lees. Dallas was her home for nearly sixty years after the young family moved from Canada to be near the Bardin immediate and extended family in Dallas. Widowed at a young age but armed with a determined independence and quiet strength, she entered the work force as a Manager with the Hixon and Faulkner Martinizing chain, the first Martinizing stores in the southwest. She became a fixture in the Highland Park stores for thirty years, known and appreciated for her warm personality, gracious manner and sweet nature, traits that defined her personality her entire life. Maxine’s strong faith, which never waned, sustained her throughout her long life. She was a dedicated and faithful member of North Dallas Baptist Church, where she raised her family, and in later years Wilshire Baptist Church. Even as her health declined, she continued to attend, and find comfort, in Sunday services at her retirement home. Maxine enjoyed cherished friendships and took great pleasure in her close group of long time friends, known to some as ‘The Golden Girls’. Their families watched happily as this circle of loving friends, all widows, enriched one another’s lives as they shared church work and activities, frequent social outings, and world wide travel that produced countless photo albums and many treasured memories. No doubt the new laughter we hear from above today is that of the glad welcome as one more joins her circle of friends. Above all else, Maxine was a loyal, loving and devoted mother to her children, always seeing the best in them. Equally, she loved her daughter and sons-in-law. Even until the end of her life she delighted and took pride in hearing details of their lives and the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by the family who adored her and will hold her memory forever close: Daughters and their husbands Lorraine and Elmer Hairgrove, Carol and Gary Everett, sons David Bardin and Danny Bardin, grandchildren and their spouses Beth and Rod Quillen, Paige and Raymond Johns, Ethan and Kiersten Everett, and Travis Bardin, great grandchildren LauraBeth and Wyatt Quillen, Jake and Sam Johns, and sister-in-law and dear friend Bobbie Lees. The family is grateful to the caregivers at Three Fountains for the kidness that brought comfort to her final years. Service will be Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 1PM at Restland Abbey Chapel. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Maxine’s memory to Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas 75214.
