Maya Bhalchandra Palnitkar's Obituary
Maya Bhalchandra Palnitkar, 76, of Dallas, Texas passed away June 7, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. She was born August 31, 1944 to Narayan Bablad and Lila Bablad in Bagalkot, India. She married Chandu Palnitkar on May 6, 1979 in Bombay, India. She was a Research Scientist for over 40 years. Maya retired from Howard Hughes Medical Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Maya dedicated her life to the pursuit of science and research for over 30 years at UT Southwestern which resulted in many important results for the creation of drugs we are all familiar with, and she was published for her work in prestigious journals such as Cell and Nature. However, despite her impressive academic career, she was better known as a warm motherly figure to the 50+ post doctoral research scientists who came to her lab from various countries. These individuals are now the foremost scientists all over the world and also look to her as a mother when they were away from home and sought comfort.
She is survived by Bina and her husband Nimesh, and her three granddaughters, along with sister Vidya Matmary of Bangalore, India.
She was preceded in death by husband Chandu Palnitkar.
