Meleta L. Compass' Obituary
Meleta Leana Hill-Compass was born on January 12th, 1929, in St. Catherine, Jamaica, to parents Jonothan Hill and Aretha Lewis. Meleta was the fourth of six children.
Growing up, Meleta displayed her devotion and unparalleled dedication to her family. While her education was paramount and she excelled academically in school, she had the desire for entrepreneurship, and so decided to leave school and directed her focus to assisting her father in managing and operating his store.
Meleta later met her soulmate, Winston George Compass. It was the beginning of their forever together. They enjoyed marital bliss- a story of love and devotion of 70 years. And so they started their family with an amazing prodigy of eight amazing children, of which six of those children were their own together. Their family union was completed, and they both built a life rooted in faith, love, and commitment.
In 1967, Meleta emigrated to the United States and made Texas her home. She worked relentlessly, paving the way for her family. Missing her husband and children, and being family-oriented, Meleta was already skilled as a caregiver. She worked diligently as a nanny, and after being apart from her family for two years, she was reunited with her husband Winston and their children Trevor, Claudette, Junior, Marcia, Courtney, and Wayne. A year later, with sacrifice, commitment, and hard work, Meleta and Winston purchased their first home here in Plano, Texas.
A virtuous woman, a prayer warrior, a loving wife, a dedicated mother, grandmother, and a woman who accepted God as the compass of her life led her children to the Lord. She did not just send her children to church; she accompanied them, ensuring that God was the main focus in their lives. Her pride was her family, and she was their biggest cheerleader. Her strength was her faith, and her joy was seeing others thrive. Meleta was a devoted servant of the Lord and worked faithfully at Luminator Technology Group for many years. She was a dedicated member of Central Baptist Church.
The Sunday family dinners filled with joy, happiness, and laughter shared at the dinner table were her greatest joy. Meleta also enjoyed sewing, sports that included baseball, basketball, and football. The echo of her saying, “Yeah, man!” aligned with her Jamaican roots will be missed.
Meleta was preceded in death by her late husband Winston George Compass and daughter Claudette Hayles; siblings Lester, Ina, Ivy, and Milton. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Myrtle Hill. She is sadly missed by her children, Trevor Hayles, Annabell Compass, Junior Compass (Sharon), Marcia Hampton (Michael), Glenmore Compass, Courtney Compass (Leamecia), Wayne Compass (Sherail), 27 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.
Mom, we loved you, but God loved you more. Your footprints will forever be imprinted on our hearts. May your soul rest in peace and abide with the Lord in Heaven.
