Melvin Millard Grayson's Obituary
Melvin Millard Grayson was born July 3, 1930 in Comanche, Texas. He attended John Tyler High School and worshipped at West Erwin Church of Christ in Tyler, Texas, where he met Margaret Jewel Dunlap.After high school graduation, he attended Tyler Junior College for a year. He volunteered and served in the Air Force from 1948–1952. He was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi and taught radar skills to the airmen. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He took a little time off on December 28, 1950 to marry his high school sweetheart. They lived in Biloxi, Mississippi. They have now been married for over 68 years!After the service he worked for Convair in Fort Worth putting radar systems in airplanes. Soon he was a TV repairman and actually made house calls. His defense and space manufacturing career began soon after in 1956 with Chance Vought, which later became E-Systems and is now Raytheon. He retired in 1988 after 32 years. He took about two weeks of retirement and began real estate classes. He was proud to be an agent for Buyers’ Voice, helping people purchase their homes, for over 10 years.Melvin was a great family man. The Grayson family has grown through the years and now includes: Daughter Janet Wilemon and husband, Daryl Wilemon; Daughter Gail Thompson; Daughter Gloria Eastwood and husband Terry Eastwood. PaPa is grandfather to seven grandchildren: Leanna Wilemon, Kristi Thompson, Alisha Mizell, Aaron Eastwood, Kyle Thompson, Holly Belt, and Shannon Summers. They are blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Mason Mizell, Cole Thompson, Hayden Denney, Pierce, Landon and Caroline Belt, and Liam, Kellan, and Hallee Eastwood.Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Millard Grayson; mother, Bessie Conway Grayson; stepmother, Olga Grayson; three brothers, Garland, Lawrence, and David; and two sisters, Mildred Grayson Bowman and Jo Grayson Butler.Although his professional work ethic is strong, he is best known for his dedication to the work of the Lord’s church. Once the family moved to Garland in 1960, they attended Austin Street Church of Christ and Centerville Road Church of Christ. At Austin Street he was a deacon and an elder. He taught adult Bible classes and also home Bible studies where several people were taught the gospel and baptized. He brought his daughters to Christ and baptized many of the members at Austin Street.The visitation for Melvin will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Restland Funeral Home.The funeral service for Melvin will on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Centerville Road Church of Christ.
