Melvin S. Prather's Obituary
PRATHER, MELVIN S. 87, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011. Melvin was born on a dairy farm in Waxahachie, Texas on July 28, 1923. After graduation he moved to Dallas and became a “city slicker”. While working at Leggett’s Drug Store as a “soda jerk”, he met and proposed to his wife of 54 years, Lula May Gregory. In 1943, Melvin served 18 months in the United States Airforce on the US Monticello in New Guinea. Upon his return and completion of seminary at TCU Brite Divinity School, he and Lou shared the message of God’s love for thirty three years in several Methodist Churches throughout Texas and New Mexico. Even when faced with illness, they relied on Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Lou. He will be missed greatly by his three sons, Ronald, Phillip and wife Cherie, Carey and wife Vaida. He had six grandchildren, Billie Jo, Heather, La Tisha, Kerry, Leslie, Bryan and Kimberly and eight great grandchildren. Memorial servicewill be at 10:00 a.m. , Monday, March 28, 2011 at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday prior to the service.
