Melvin Singh's Obituary
It is with heavy yet hopeful hearts we say farewell to our beloved father, grandfather & great-grandfather, Mr. Melvin Singh.
Mr. Melvin Singh was born in Bilaspur to Mr. & Mrs. Jeevan Anand Singh and Rosebella Tominkson Singh. He was the eldest of 5 including 3 younger brothers and a younger sister. Mr. Singh had to step up as the role model for his younger siblings as his mother passed away when he was only 9 years old. It was in these formidable years growing up in India that Mr. Singh learned his lifelong values of integrity, loving like Jesus, and cultivating a servant heart. In 1956, Mr. Singh graduated at the top of his class in nursing school and it was there that he met the love of his life, Mrs. Phulmani Singh. After their marriage in 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Singh strived for a committed, faithful relationship filled with innumerable blessings including their five beautiful daughters. Mr. Singh migrated to the land of opportunity in 1974 and he and his wife were an integral part of establishing the Indian Christian community in Dallas, Texas. The Indian Christian community today was originally a group of committed families gathered for prayer and church in Mr. and Mrs. Singh's back den at Crestview Drive. For anyone who knew Mr. Melvin Singh knew he was a stalwart for helping the least of these, supporting his family, and honoring God even when no one was watching.
He was purposeful in his goals, intentional in his duty as the head of the household and always supported his wife and daughters as a gentle and loving husband and father. His many hobbies didn’t only include attending his grandkids' awards ceremonies and sporting events, he was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
A hallmark of Mr. and Mrs. Singh’s successful relationship was their hospitable spirits and generous hearts. Their home was always open to guests and visitors. Whether that was hosting weekly prayer meeting and Bible study groups, getting everyone together for a Dallas Cowboys watch party, or even turning their home into a wedding venue. If there was going to be a gathering- the community knew where to go.
Whenever there was a person that needed shelter Mr. Singh was the first one to step in and offer his home. He truly exemplified James 1:27
He enjoyed his career as a caring and intelligent RN. He was “that” Charge Nurse, at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, who was often consulted for his medical expertise. Mr. Singh was very hard-working, took pride in his professional career and his co-workers and patients alike, truly respected and loved him.
After a successful and fruitful marriage of 57 years, Mr. Singh will be reunited with his wife in heaven for eternity. Through God’s grace, Mr. Singh is survived by his five daughters and their families: Joel & Roselyne Joseph, Alim & Shirley Chishti, Glenn & Indira Govias, Naveen & Esther Bhatti, and Mary Singh. He is also survived by his brother and sisters-in-law, Mr. David and Asha Singh and Mrs. Laveena Singh. His memories will always be remembered by his grandchildren: Jonathan & Kirmal, Abhimanyu & Jennifer, Clinton & Jaqueline, Michael, Naveen Jr., Michelle, Cameron, Nicole, Natalie, and great-granddaughters Jordan and Jeanine.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” - Psalm 23
